In Meghalaya, National People's Party President Conrad Sangma took oath as the Chief Minister. Sangma was invited by Governor Ganga Prasad to form the government with the support of 34 MLAs in 60-member Assembly.
They include 19 MLAs of the National People's Party, six of the United Democratic Party, four of the People's Democratic Front, two each of the Hill State People's Democratic Party and the BJP and an Independent.
Meghalaya threw up a fractured mandate.The Congress, which has been in power in the state for the last 10 years, won 21 seats. He is the son of former Lok Sabha Speaker late P A Sangma.
