IPS officer Sudeep Lakhtakia took over as the Director General of the black cats' commando force National Security Guard (NSG) after the retirement of chief S P Singh.
Lakhtakia, a 1984-batch Indian Police Service (IPS) officer of the Telangana cadre, was till now serving as Special DG in the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) headquarters here.
The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC), headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, had issued orders for his appointment as the NSG chief on January 19.
- The NSG is a special force unit under the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA).
- Headquarters: New Delhi.
- It was raised in 1984, following Operation Blue Star and the assassination of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi "for combating terrorist activities with a view to protecting states against internal disturbances".
