Russia banned from winter Olympics over doping issue
Russia has been banned from competing in the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang (South Korea) in an historic decision by the International Olympic Committee – although some Russian athletes will be allowed to compete under a neutral flag.The head of the IOC, Thomas Bach, revealed the decision in a press conference in Lausanne, Switzerland on 5/12/2017 .
The country’s government officials are forbidden to attend, its flag will not be displayed at the opening ceremony and its anthem will not sound.
