China invited other nations to participate in CPEC project
China has thrown open its economic corridor with Pakistan for investment by other countries. China invited other countries to participate in the corridor on the “principle of equality and voluntarism”. China announced this statement on the occasion of completion of first phase of 1320 Megaatt Port Qasim power project.
CPEC (China-Pakistan Economic Corridor), is a flagship of China’s trans-continental Belt and Road Initiative (BRI). China has been focusing on energy projects as part of its plan to build comprehensive infrastructure — the first essential step to industrialise Pakistan.
Under CPEC, hydel power projects along the Jhelum river or its tributaries, mainly in Pakistan Occupied Kashmir (POK) are expected to yield at least 2700 MW.
Participation of Qatar in CPEC: The Port Qasim plant has been developed jointly by the Power China Resources Limited and Qatar's Al-Mirqab Capital with a total investment of USD 2.085 billion. This is the first project participated by the third country.
India’s stand CPEC: India has objected to USD 50 billion CPEC on the ground that it traversed through the Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (POK).
