For the first time in India, GIS survey started in Chennai
Greater Chennai Corporation commenced a Geographic information system (GIS) survey using drones which will cover the whole of the city in 120 days, in an initiative which is being done for the first time in India. The project called ‘Preparation of the base map using geospatial techniques’.“The drones will survey everything in the city, from roads, drain and lamp posts and the map will be used for development purposes. The project received Rs 6.43 crore from the World Bank.It will be executed at an area of 426 square kilometres using two drones.This three-dimensional survey will help to record facts as they are and thus find the properties which are not yet assessed. Another benefit being the detection of property tax evasion. Some parties may knowingly or unknowingly be recorded the area of a property wrongly, and this will help in detecting such thing
