The Central Water Commission (CWC) gave hydrolo
gical clearance (approval) with the observation that the net availability of water with 75% dependability at Medigadda barrage site is 284.3 tmc
The project secured first-stage clearance for diversion of 3,168.13 hectares of forest land for Kaleshwaram work on October 25. Similarly, the Centre cleared the air on the project three days ago, stating that it was only a continuation of the previous Pranahitha- Chevella project and not a new one. Accordingly, it needs to go to Godavari River Management Board (GRMB) set up under the provisions of Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Act for clearance.
CWC stated that ample water was available for Kaleshwaram project at Medigadda barrage site to meet the proposed irrigation and drinking water needs. It has also given the go-ahead to the State Government for its plans on the project designs.
